Lorraine Ballard (Rosson)

2/11/1955 – 12/2/2008 -- Lorraine J. Ballard Rosson, age 53, passed away in Chico, CA.  Lorraine spent some of her childhood with family in Lake Tahoe or Carson City, Nevada, and her teenage years with her grandmother, Dolly, in San Rafael, CA.  Lorraine moved to Chico in 1981 to raise her two sons, James and Richard.  There she became a Cub Scout leader and a surrogate mother to many who came to live with her. She earned her GED and then studied to be an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), at the Paradise Ambulance Company in Orland, and at a summer camp in the Sierras.  She enjoyed gardening, camping, all kinds of fishing and driving her beloved Isuzu pickup truck.  She had a vast DVD collection and shared her love of music with her children.  In the mid-nineties, Lorraine suffered two strokes leaving her confined to a wheelchair.  Instead of letting her disability bring her down, she got out and started taking pictures.  Over the years, she shared her passion for photography with others, leaving behind hundreds of framed photos of the beautiful flowers and pictures in nature she captured so brilliantly.  After sister Tina passed away, Lorraine raised niece Erin with unconditional love.  A highlight was spending quality time with Erin's daughter, Alison, driving her to the park on the footrests of her wheelchair.  They would pack a snack lunch and take off for an afternoon of playing and feeding the chickens.  She also loved going over to Oakmont Retirement Community on her wheel chair taking pictures and sharing stories.  She was married to Robert Rosson, for 35 years.
